Biografia

Infanzia

Figlio di un addetto stampa di Hollywood , Stephen Robert Franken è nato nel quartiere di Brooklyn a New York . È cugino del senatore degli Stati Uniti Al Franken del Minnesota .

carriera

La sua prima apparizione sullo schermo si è svolta nel 1958 nel ruolo di Willie nell'episodio "  The Time of Your Life  " della serie di successo CBS , Playhouse 90 . Ha ottenuto il suo primo ruolo importante nell'episodio "  The Pit  " della serie western The Rebel su ABC .

Nel 1961 , è stato guest-star nell'episodio "  Il caso di Willie Betterley  " della serie Lock-Up . Poi, nel 1962 , ha interpretato Dunc Tomilson nell'episodio "  The Yacht-Club Gang  " della serie drammatica Checkmate . Appare anche in due episodi della serie Mr. Novak .

Il produttore Rod Amateau visto a Los Angeles sul palco di Say, Darling e gli offre un ruolo ricorrente come Chatsworth Osborne Junior in The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis , una serie televisiva per la CBS . Steve Franken appare quindi in numerosi episodi, dalla metà della prima stagione nel 1960 fino alla fine della quarta stagione nel 1963 .

Cominciando a sentirsi catalogato, cerca poi di interpretare ruoli meno simpatici. Così, nel 1963, è apparso nel famoso episodio "  Il caso del verdetto mortale  " di Perry Mason nel ruolo di Christopher Barton. Ha poi iniziato una lunga carriera sia in televisione che nel cinema.

Poco dopo la cancellazione di Dobie Gillis , Steve Franken diventa il tenente Samwell "Sanpan" Panosian nella serie di Gary Lockwood , The Lieutenant , che è anche la prima serie televisiva creata da Gene Roddenberry . È un aviatore americano decorato che diventa un trafficante d'armi e un traditore nell'episodio "  The Gun Runner Raid  " della serie Desert Rats o un tenente prigioniero di guerra nel film di Fred MacMurray , Tomorrow of the men . Dal 1966 al 1971 , appare in vari ruoli in almeno sei episodi della serie Bewitched su ABC .

Nel 1968 è il cameriere ubriaco nel film di Blake Edwards , The Party , al fianco di Peter Sellers .

Dal 1970 al 1973 , ha suonato cinque volte in Love, American Style sulla ABC . Allo stesso tempo, è diventato ufficiale Albert Porter in tre episodi di Auto-Patrol (1971-1972) sulla NBC . Nel 1979, ha interpretato Tom Voorhies al fianco di Michael Constantine in The North Avenue Irregulars prodotto dagli studi Disney . Poi, trova Peter Sellers per The Diabolical Plot of Doctor Fu Manchu (1980).

Appare e dirige vari episodi della serie antologica a tema religioso: Insight . Negli anni 2000, ha interpretato piccoli ruoli in spettacoli come Murphy Brown , A Guy from Queens e Seinfeld .

Per quanto riguarda il doppiaggio , presta la sua voce a varie serie e film tra cui I Puffi (1981), Batman (1993), Space Rangers (1996), Spawn (1997) e Detention (1999). Ha anche partecipato a diversi videogiochi tra cui RTX Red Rock , Law & Order: Dead on the Money , Law & Order II: Double or Nothing , Lionheart e Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader nel 2002-2003.

Morte

Steve Franken è morto all'età di 80 anni 24 agosto 2012, in un centro di cura e riabilitazione a Canoga Park , in California , per complicazioni dovute al cancro . È stato sposato per la seconda volta con l'attrice Jean Garrett, dalla quale ha avuto una figlia, Anne, dopo aver avuto due figlie da un primo matrimonio con Julia Carter, Emily e Abigail.
