Il Primetime Emmy Award per la migliore serie drammatica ( Primetime Emmy Award per Outstanding Drama Series ) è un premio televisivo assegnato dal 1951 durante la cerimonia annuale dei Primetime Emmy Awards .

Storico

Questa categoria è spesso citata come la "categoria principale" delle cerimonie degli Emmy e ha cambiato nome nel corso della sua storia.

Inizialmente, è stato nominato Miglior spettacolo drammatico dal 1951 al 1954, poi Miglior serie drammatica ( Miglior serie drammatica ) nel 1955 e 1956. Nel 1957 non sono stati assegnati premi specifici per i drammi, ma nel 1958 il suo nome è cambiato di nuovo per essere diviso in due nuove categorie: Miglior serie di antologia drammatica ( Miglior serie di antologia drammatica ) e Miglior serie drammatica con personaggi continui . Il titolo cambiò di nuovo nel 1959 in Miglior serie drammatica - Meno di un'ora . Nel 1960, il nome cambiò di nuovo in Outstanding Program Achievement in the Field of Drama , e questo nome rimase in uso fino al 1964. Nel 1966, il nome cambiò in inglese con sottili sfumature in francese, con Outstanding Dramatic Series e Outstanding Series-Drama , per arrivare finalmente al titolo attuale, Outstanding Drama Series , tradotto in francese da Best Dramatic Series.
