Il WCW World Tag Team Championship (che può risultare in World Championship Team WCW ) è un campionato di wrestling utilizzato dal World Championship Wrestling (WCW). È stato creato da Jim Crockett Promotions (in) , un territorio della National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) che copre la Carolina del Nord e la Carolina del Sud nella seconda metà degli anni '70 come NWA World Tag Team Championship (contro Mid-Atlantic ) (che può essere tradotto come NWA World Team Championship (versione Mid-Atlantic ) ). Nel 1988, Ted Turner ha acquistato Jim Crockett Promotions che ha ribattezzato World Championship Wrestling .
Storia
I titoli furono creati nel 1975 per la federazione Mid-Atlantic Wrestling come loro versione del World Tag Team Championship . I titoli furono riconosciuti come NWA World Tag Team Championship da Jim Crockett Promotions, Inc. (in seguito World Championship Wrestling ) fino al 1991, quando la WCW si separò dalla NWA ei titoli furono ribattezzati WCW World Tag Team Championship .
La NWA non ha riconosciuto ufficialmente i World Tag Team Champions, poiché c'erano molti titoli di squadre regionali affiliati alla NWA come titoli "mondiali". Pertanto, il JCP non si è mai riferito ufficialmente al suo campionato come un titolo NWA. Sono stati semplicemente chiamati "World Tag Team Champions". Non è stato fino alla metà degli anni '80 e il JCP è diventato la promozione numero uno della NWA, perché il titolo è stato denominato NWA World Tag Team Championship.
La NWA, che iniziò come un nome di divisione per il fondatore dell'organizzazione Pinky George negli anni '40 (prima di essere il nome ufficiale dell'organizzazione nel 1948), non ha riconosciuto "NWA World Tag Team Champions". Funzionari fino al 1992, quando Terry Gordy e Steve Williams hanno vinto un torneo per l'onore.
I primi World Tag Team Champions sotto lo stendardo WCW erano Doom , che conteneva la versione del NWA World Tag Team Championship, creato dal Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling e quindi riconosciuto dalla WCW. I titoli furono ribattezzati WCW World Tag Team Championship nel gennaio 1991 dopo la separazione tra WCW e NWA. Risultati, i Dudley Boyz sono stati gli ultimi campioni del tag team WCW.
Chris Benoit , Mick Foley e Dudley Boyz ( Bubba Ray Dudley e D-Von Dudley ) sono le uniche persone ad aver tenuto il WCW Tag Team Championship, il WWF Tag Team Championship e l' ECW Tag Team Championship . Benoit e i Dudley Boyz hanno anche detenuto l'esclusivo titolo WWE SmackDown , il WWE Tag Team Championship e il Dudleyz (ora noto come Team 3D) deteneva i titoli NWA e TNA tag team .
